Seeing More Red with the X100

Pumping gas the other day at a Petro Canada station, I had my X100 with me when I went in to pay and saw the simple graphic line on the wall. It kind of made me think ironically that it looked like a financial chart showing the direction of gas prices, though in reverse. Edited for a bit more contrast, grain and punch in Nik Software’s Color EfexPro.

I saw these red railings on steps and the shadows they cast and I couldn’t resist making a quick image. The 35mm equivalent focal length of the Fujifilm X100, and f11 gave me what I wanted. Edited for a bit more contrast, grain and punch in Nik Software’s Color EfexPro.

Macro with a rangefinder style camera you say? Yes! This image was made on a walk near home after dinner with my trusty X100. I shot this image at about f4 or 5.6 to somewhat limit depth of field while retaining some sharpness in the near flower range.

Fujifilm X100 Car Shadow

Walking out to my car at lunch under the harsh mid-day sun, I saw how the shadow of my car hit the pavement and the white line divided light from dark. I grabbed the X100 and made this abstract image at f8 using the EVF for precise composition.

The great thing about always having a small powerful camera with you is that you can make images that you normally would miss with big DSLRs as you simply don’t have them with you as much. I went to see a great photographers movie on the weekend, the Canadian-made film about photographers in South Africa during Apartheid called —“The bang bang club.” sitting in my car in the parking lot of the theatre, I liked how the SUV beside me and my passenger mirror created a repetitive car theme against the dark wall. More Fujifilm X100.. Street Shooter

Many people want the new Fujifilm X100 for street shooting. Ok, this is meant to be a pun, not meaning to be so literal in this post but I saw how the shadows of 2 streetlamps overhead mixed with the shadow of the woman walking by and it kind of worked for me. The camera responds quickly and created highly detailed images, even at high ISO’s.
